Moving overseas in 6-12 months
Assuming your visa applications have been submitted, it’s time to decide on a new city or town to call home. You may know the exact location you want to live in – perhaps you’ve already been working out there or you’ve fallen in love with the place on holiday.
If you haven’t got an exact place in mind, do your research. The internet can provide lots of information – from expat forums to individual city websites. If you have any ongoing medical conditions then you’ll need to ensure there is treatment available nearby.
If you have children then choosing schools and day care centres is an important thing to do well in advance as this may affect where you decide to live. Finding fun activities – like roller discos and play centres - can also help children get excited about the move.
Now’s also the time to go through your belongings. Decide what you want to take with you, what you want to store and what you want to dispose of.
